Stanford and Westenhanger History Society was established in early 2020 to offer residents and all those interested in the past lives of a typical community of villages over the ages. Across the centuries these small agricultural villages were caught up in many more global events and this is reflected in the changes and growth of these communities.

We are very lucky that these times are now documented in the exhaustive study by Ms Catharine Goodwin who has spent many hours of research in archives, museums and talking to local residents to create a fascinating account of the history including employment in the area, working practices and the effects of both military and community events. In addition many of the established houses still present in the streets and lanes of Stanford and Westenhanger, including the castle, the churches and the many interesting houses, are investigated and recorded. Our thanks goes out the Cathy for committing all this to the book.

Please contact us via the form below if you are interested in joining our group for the varied programme of talks and events we hold and to purchase your own copy of the book.
